Beautiful Belly!

Midwives have been practicing their art throughout history. Today, midwives continue to uphold the traditional belief in childbirth as a family-centered, normal, and important life event for women, while at the same time incorporating some of the advances that science and modern technology have to offer when helpful or necessary. We would love to offer you a joyous, safe, empowering, family-centered birth experience in your home or in our freestanding birth center, The Birth House, in Bridgton, Maine.

Midwives know that most women can give birth normally given the proper environment, preparation, encouragement and time. If you are someone who desires a natural birth, wants to participate fully in your care, and that values a personal approach to care, a midwife might be the right choice for you.

Midwives are trained specialists in normal reproductive care. During their education, midwives become experts in normal pregnancy, birth and newborn care, and they recognize that childbearing is a normal, natural process, not an illness. The level of prenatal care, education, birth and post partum care midwives provide results in a low rate of technological intervention, a low cesarean rate, and healthy moms and babies.

The midwives at The Birth House and Birthwise Midwifery Service are Nationally certified CPMs. CPMs are not trained as nurses, but rather enter their 3 year training directly into midwifery and specialize in birth in birth centers and at the client's home. We care for pregnant women with normal, healthy pregnancies only, and consult and transport to a medical facility in the case of complications or variations that fall outside our scope of practice.
